Our Volunteers

Volunteers are a vital part of Healing Horizons for FND. While HHFFND is currently in its development phase and has not yet begun formal volunteer recruitment, this page outlines how we intend to work with, support, and value volunteers as our programs grow.

We believe volunteering should be calm, purposeful, and respectful, never rushed, pressured, or overwhelming. When the time comes, our volunteers will be welcomed as trusted members of the HHFFND community.

Volunteers will play an essential role in helping Healing Horizons for FND build safe, accessible, and supportive spaces for people affected by FND across Canada.

Through their contributions, volunteers will help to:

  • extend peer support and connection
  • strengthen community belonging
  • support program delivery and accessibility
  • model calm, respectful communication
  • uphold HHFFND’s values of care and accountability

Our approach to volunteering is grounded in appreciation, collaboration, and mutual respect.

When HHFFND begins recruiting volunteers, our approach will be guided by the same principles that shape all of our work:

  • trauma-informed and FND-friendly practice
  • clear roles and expectations
  • respectful pacing and flexibility
  • meaningful support and guidance
  • attention to wellbeing and capacity
  • strong safeguarding and ethical standards

We will not expect volunteers to “figure things out on their own.” Clear structure and support will be central to every role.

Future HHFFND volunteers can expect:

  • thoughtful onboarding and training
  • clear role descriptions and boundaries
  • access to national host guidelines and resources
  • ongoing support from organizational leadership
  • a calm, respectful, and inclusive environment
  • appreciation for their time and contributions

Volunteering with HHFFND will be designed to feel steady, purposeful, and sustainable.

As programs develop, volunteer opportunities may include roles such as:

  • Peer Support Group Hosts
  • Youth and Caregiver Program Assistants
  • Community Outreach Volunteers
  • Resource Development Support
  • Administrative or Operational Support

All roles will be structured, clearly defined, and aligned with HHFFND’s safeguarding standards.

Safety is central to everything we do. When volunteers are recruited, all approved volunteers will complete:

  • HHFFND volunteer onboarding
  • youth protection and safeguarding training (where applicable)
  • trauma-informed communication training
  • clear guidance on boundaries and confidentiality

No volunteer will be placed in a role without appropriate preparation and support.

HHFFND is currently focused on building strong governance, safeguarding, and program foundations before formally recruiting volunteers.

When applications open, information will be shared on this page and across our website.

Growing Together

Although we do not yet have active volunteers, Healing Horizons for FND is laying the groundwork for a thoughtful, supported, and values-aligned volunteer community.

When the time is right, we look forward to welcoming volunteers who share our commitment to care, accessibility, and respect and who want to walk alongside the FND community with steadiness and compassion.
