Adults With FND

A calm, supportive space for adults living with Functional Neurological Disorder

Welcome

This page is for adults who are experiencing symptoms of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). You may be navigating work, family responsibilities, relationships, daily tasks, and the emotional impact of unpredictable symptoms. Wherever you are in your journey, physically or emotionally. You are welcome here.

FND occurs when the brain and body have difficulties sending and receiving signals. It is a real neurological condition, recognized by medical professionals around the world.

Adults often experience symptoms such as:

  • Weakness or difficulty moving
  • Tremors or shaking
  • Functional seizures (non-epileptic)
  • Speech or voice changes
  • Sensory disturbances
  • Sudden fatigue
  • Cognitive fog or difficulty concentrating
  • Pain or unusual body sensations

These symptoms are real. They are not imagined, and they are not your fault.

Living with FND can impact:

  • Work or school
  • Parenting and family life
  • Daily routines
  • Social interactions
  • Emotional well-being
  • Mobility and independence

You deserve support that meets you where you are.

Our adult programs offer a calm, structured, and low-pressure environment where you can connect with others who understand your experiences.

Our groups are:

  • Predictable
  • Small and safe
  • Slow-paced
  • Trauma-informed
  • Non-judgmental
  • Led by trained volunteer hosts

You can participate in whatever way feels right for you:

  • Speak a little or not at all
  • Keep your camera on or off
  • Join from bed, a chair, or while resting
  • Take breaks anytime
  • Leave early if you become tired or overwhelmed

There is never pressure to share more than you want.

Each session follows a consistent flow:

  1. A calm welcome
  2. A gentle grounding moment
  3. An optional check-in
  4. A FND-friendly coping or self-regulation tool
  5. A space to reflect, listen, or share
  6. A soft closing moment

This space is not therapy. It is peer support, compassionate, steady, and community focused.

Coping tools focus on:

  • Reducing overwhelm
  • Supporting emotional regulation
  • Managing physical symptoms
  • Navigating freeze or dissociation
  • Building gentle routines
  • Creating calm moments in daily life

All adult coping tools will be located in the official HHFFND Coping Menu for Adults.

Living with FND can affect the whole household. Your loved ones may want to understand what you’re going through or how to support you.
