Conflict of Interest
A clear and transparent overview of how Healing Horizons for FND manages conflicts of interest in order to protect integrity, trust, and ethical decision-making.
Healing Horizons for FND (HHFFND) is committed to acting with fairness, responsibility, and transparency in all aspects of its work. To maintain public trust and safeguard the organization, HHFFND follows clear guidelines to prevent personal interests from influencing decisions or actions.
This page provides a public summary. A more detailed internal policy is followed by the Board of Directors, leadership, advisors, and volunteers.
A conflict of interest arises when an individual involved with HHFFND has a personal, financial, or professional interest that could:
- influence decision-making
- affect judgment or objectivity
- result in personal benefit
- reasonably appear to result in personal benefit
Conflicts of interest may be actual, potential, or perceived. All three are treated seriously, as even the appearance of a conflict can affect trust.
Conflict of interest expectations apply to anyone in a position of responsibility or influence within HHFFND, including:
- Board members
- Volunteers and hosts
- Advisors
- Contractors or consultants
- Any individual involved in decision-making or program delivery
Transparency and accountability apply across the entire organization.
HHFFND manages conflicts of interest through clear, consistent practices:
Disclosure
Individuals are expected to disclose any real, potential, or perceived conflicts to HHFFND leadership in a timely manner.
Recusal
When a conflict exists, the individual removes themselves from related discussions, decisions, or actions.
Documentation
Disclosures and actions taken are recorded internally to support transparency and accountability.
Review
The Board of Directors reviews conflicts and determines appropriate steps in accordance with internal policy.
Ethical Responsibility
All individuals are expected to act in the best interest of HHFFND and the communities it serves.
Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:
- financial benefit to an individual or their family member
- use of HHFFND information for personal advantage
- influencing decisions involving one’s own business, employer, or personal relationships
- personal relationships affecting volunteer placement or program decisions
These examples are provided to guide ethical judgment, not to assume wrongdoing.
Strong conflict of interest practices help ensure:
- fair and impartial decision-making
- public trust and organizational credibility
- ethical leadership and governance
- responsible stewardship of resources
- safety and integrity across all programs
Clear boundaries are essential to maintaining trust within the HHFFND community.
