Our Impact
Building calm, clarity, and connection for people living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Healing Horizons for FND exists to reduce isolation, confusion, and harm experienced by people living with Functional Neurological Disorder, and by the families, caregivers, and professionals supporting them.
Our impact is grounded in lived experience, trauma-informed practice, and accessibility-first design. We focus on creating spaces and resources that are calm, respectful, and safe for people whose nervous systems may be under constant strain.
People affected by FND often encounter:
- Confusing or conflicting information
- Limited access to knowledgeable support
- Pressure to push through symptoms
- Systems that are not designed for fluctuation or unpredictability
Our work is designed to gently counter these realities. We aim to help people:
- Feel less alone and more understood
- Gain clear, non-judgmental information about FND
- Access safe, flexible support spaces
- Build confidence in self-advocacy and communication
- Experience support that respects capacity, pacing, and dignity
- Our programs and resources are designed for:
- People living with FND across the lifespan
- Young adults navigating transition and independence
- Parents, caregivers, and family members
- Educators and schools supporting students with FND
- Healthcare and community professionals seeking FND-informed understanding
We intentionally design age-specific and role-specific pathways to reduce overwhelm and repetition.
At this stage, our impact is primarily qualitative and experience-based. We look for signs such as:
- Increased understanding of FND
- Reduced feelings of shame or self-blame
- Improved confidence navigating healthcare, school, or work
- Participants reporting a greater sense of safety and belonging
- Engagement that respects fluctuating capacity rather than attendance alone
We value meaningful change over numerical scale.
Impact is not only about outcomes. It is also about how support is delivered. Our approach includes:
- Clear permission to rest, pause, or disengage
- No requirement to speak, share, or perform
- Options for cameras off and flexible participation
- Language that avoids urgency, pressure, or deficit framing
- Accessibility considerations built in from the start
For many people with FND, this design alone is impactful.
We view impact as a continuous loop, not a static result.
We listen through lived experience, participant feedback, and collaboration.
We learn by reflecting on what supports safety, clarity, and accessibility.
We adapt by refining programs, language, and structures over time.
