Our History

Healing Horizons for FND (HHFFND) was created in response to a clear need across Canada:  people living with Functional Neurological Disorder and their families often struggled to find support that was calm, accessible, age-appropriate, and free from stigma.

Many individuals felt isolated. Children and teens lacked specialized support. Caregivers were overwhelmed.  Professionals sought clearer, consistent resources. A national, inclusive, trauma-informed support system simply didn’t exist. HHFFND was created to fill that gap.

From its earliest planning, HHFFND was grounded in:

  • compassion
  • trauma-informed principles
  • accessibility
  • clarity
  • evidence-aligned education
  • age-specific support
  • collaboration with professionals

The goal was simple:  to create a steady, reassuring community for anyone affected by FND.

HHFFND began as a vision for community programs and grew into a fully incorporated Canadian nonprofit with structured governance, safety policies, educational resources, and national support offerings.

Through ongoing development, the organization is expanding:

  • age-group programs
  • coping resources
  • collaboration with healthcare and education sectors
  • public awareness
  • volunteer-led support networks

This foundation positions HHFFND for long-term sustainability and national impact.

Moving Forward

Our history is just beginning, and every person who visits, participates, or supports HHFFND becomes part of that story. Together, we are shaping a future where people living with FND feel supported, understood, and safe.
